Admob just released a new metrics showing a significant spike on ad impressions for Google Android. AdMob’s report was based on the ad requests received from AdMob network’s mobile sites and applications. Here are the higlights of AdMob’s latest metrics: 97% increase in worldwide requests from Android devices, totalling to 1 billion ad request between October-December 98% of the ad requests came from HTC devices in October, 56% in December from HTC devices and 30% from Motorola DROID. Among the Android devices that generated more than 3% of ad requests are Motorola DROID, HTC Dream, HTC Magic, HTC Hero, Motorola CLIQ, HTC Droid, HTC Dream, HTC Magic and HTC Hero. Motorola DROID received 30% ad requests in December making it the number one Adroid handset in terms of ad requests. Interestingly, these data have to come in just in time for Google’s announcement of the Nexus Phone. And even more interesting is the fact that AdMob is already owned by Google. So,  it is most likely that the metrics has a little bias over the Android than other mobile phone OS. Will the Nexus One phone add spike to Android’s current achievement in terms of ad request? Google to Sell Own Android Phone Called Nexus One

Frankly, it’s about time that Google come up with its own phone. Not just the co-manufactured phone running on Google’s Android platform but a real Google phone with the Google brand and to be sold through Google not through network carriers or any mobile company. Guess what? It might soon become a reality as there have been strong proofs of a new Google phone which even have a name already – the Google Nexus One. Google Mobile blog sort of confirmed it by way of a blog post saying that Google employees are  on a dog food diet or dogfooding, a term used when Google employees are testing Google products to get quick feedback and suggestions. But when Google employees are on dogfooding, they are not allowed to divulge any information about it. But that doesn’t mean that some employees would not leak it out.  This time, thanks to Twitter, actual photos as well as some information about the Google Nexus One quickly spread out. Detail s about the Nexus One was posted by TechCrunch and it include the following – It will obviously be running on Android 2.1, with Qualcomm Snapdragon chip, high-resolution display, and will be full-touch controlled having no keyboards. It will also have voice-to-text feature especially made for those who don’t like touch-screen phones. Now, the most interesting part is the fact that the Google phone will not be released through any mobile carrier. Meaning it will be an unlocked phone available for use with any data SIM. Release date is most probably early next year, especially since Google has already established the viability of the Android as a pretty reliable mobile platform. So there, it looks like the Motorola DROID which is starting to gain some grounds in the mobile market, is after all not the real iPhone competitor but the real Google phone instead. Google vs. Apple : Epic Battle of Droids, Tunes & Systems

For several years now, Google and Apple have been complimentary partners. Google was expertly integrated with the Apple iPhone, and the company’s engineers work tirelessly to bring many of their services to the Apple platform in addition to the PC and Linux platforms. They’ve been pals for much of the search engine’s lifespan. Google’s chief financial officer, Eric Schmidt, was even a member of Apple’s board of directors since August 2006. And immediately after Schmidt left Apple’s boardroom this year, Google has made much more of a push into areas that have thus far been dominated by Apple and Microsoft: browsers, operating systems, music services, and now, even Google-powered phones and Google netbooks . Schmidt’s resignation from the Apple board in 2009 was a signal to many that Google would be frequently stepping on Apple’s toes and looking to them as more of a competitor than partner. With that in mind, many can’t help but wonder which company will fare better and come out on top. Apple has been around since 1976. Google was established in 1998. In terms of length of time in business, Apple has got Google beat by more than two decades. In terms of brand awareness, however, Google trumps Apple, coming in at No. 7 on Interbrand’s Best Global Brands List for 2009 . Apple comes in at a respectable No. 20. Google is no stranger to going up against more established competitors and coming out on top. Case in point – Microsoft. In terms of search, they’ve been battling it out, and while Microsoft’s latest incarnation of search – Bing – is doing extremely well ( when it’s working ), Google still has more searches, and by quite a lot. While Microsoft has an advantage in the operating system and browser markets, with the majority of computers coming pre-installed with Windows and Internet Explorer, Google’s raising some eyebrows with their Android OS and Chrome browser.
