Social Media Tips : Why Should I Help You?

When the clock struck midnight on January 1st, I began running. It was a 5k run in Philadelphia, along the Schuylkill River, to be more specific. During this run, I passed a homeless man. Rather than running past him, I stopped. I gave him $100. Later that day, I stopped to think in greater detail about that incident. What was it that compelled me to engage him? I think the answer to that question, in this case, should be fairly obvious. The night was cold and rainy. No person should be outside and homeless, regardless of how they got there. How does this story relate to my thoughts on many folks on Twitter? Before I continue, please understand I am in no way making light of the homeless. I’m simply offering background as to what inspired the following thought: Many individuals all around the social media world are simply asking for handouts. Think about that for a second. How many people do their best to be placed prominently in front of you, but really do very little to offer a value proposition? How many individuals clamor daily about social media strategies, and the need for engagement, yet fail to offer an answer to the simple question of why you should contribute to their success? I find more and more redundancy invading my personal space. Less substance, less value, less originality, more noise. While there is overwhelming concern about those that are not participating in social media ‘correctly’, there is a disproportionate lack of concern for those that are considered social media ‘geniuses’ and really offer minimal value. If you’re going to be successful long term using social media, you must be certain that your product can back up your mouth. With that in mind, follow along and below you’ll find a small list with tips to help you, or your product, offer a compelling value proposition. 10 Ways to Translate Social Media Success into Real World

The People Have Tweeted: The Tweet As An Endorsement

In today’s Wall Street Journal there is a full page ad from a gum manufacturer featuring Twitter Tweets as “endoresments” of their product. The ad  begins with “The people have Tweeted.” The ad then features Tweets that speak highly of their gum brand from ten different Twitter accounts. The People Have Tweeted Readers are then encouraged to follow the brand @ Twiter.com/tridentlayers I wonder if Trident had to get permission from each of the Tweeters to use their Tweet in their promotional materials or if the Tweeters were compensated for endorsing Trident Layers? Time permitting, I am going to contact each of them and see if they were even aware their Tweets had been used in a full page Wall Street Journal ad or not . The following ten Twitter accounts endorsed Trident Layers gum. MsCalcote, eddahlen, warob, cameron_crazy, xstandforitx, mattchew03, amybites, FitBottomedGirl, melissakmurray and lollieshopping. I sure hope for Trident’s sake they alerted these Tweeters first (not me) about using their Tweets and that none of the above Twitterers are employees, friends or family members of any of their ad agencies.

Local Shopping Search Engine Milo.com Goes Mainstream

Although local shopping search engine Milo.com has been around for two years already, it is only now that the site is going full blast as it leaves beta stage. Before you start thinking that Milo.com is just another local shopping search engine that will only tell you specific online deals, well actually it does more than that. Milo also gives you available inventories of products available on stores near your location. Sounds good, right? Wait, there’s more. As it leave beta and since real-time search is all the rage right now, Milo.com is also rolling out a search interface that shows real-time product inventory results. If you’re familiar with another product search engine Kayak, well it’s almost similar in features. And like other consumer online shopping sites, Milo.com gives you full details of the products you want to purchase including reviews from other buyers. While this is useful when shopping for products, it would have been more useful if the reviews featured are actually that of the store where a user purchased the product.  It’s more appropriate that way since Milo.com is supposed to be a tool for finding the nearest local stores that offer consumer products. Still, it’s a good site and the real-time feature is a welcome treat. However, we could not discount the fact that Milo.com is up against major search engines who offer similar search verticals. Although real-time results and local store finder are not yet in the major search engines’ agenda. Well except for  Google which is reportedly preparing to offer offer product inventories of local stores in product searches. In the meantime, check out Milo.com and enjoy it for what it offers especially if you’re still rushing on your Christmas shopping chores. Check out the SEO Tools guide at Search Engine Journal . Things To Consider Before Starting Out On Your Affiliate Marketing Career

by Ron Cripps Affiliate marketing has been helping push the escalation of e-commerce since the beginning of the internet. While affiliate marketing in one form or another has been around both as a concept and in practice for quite some time before the internet was born, it was the World Wide Web and it’s bulk use that really made it evolve into a fully functional marketing machine. If you want to join the ranks of webmasters taking part in this great income source, there are some important steps you’ll need to take. Comprehend that it isn’t stress-free money: There is very rarely such a thing as easy cash and there is very rarely a sure thing. Understand that before going any farther. Making decent money by signing on for an affiliate marketing program is achievable but it will take a lot of effort on your behalf. You will have to commit a lot of time and at least some money to get the ball going. It will also take quite a bit of know how. Recognize that you’re not by yourself: In the majority of every case, the better an affiliate marketing program seems, the more individuals who are taking part in it. Make sure you commit this to memory to avert disappointment. There is a product or service out there competing with dozens, hundreds or even thousands of related products or services. Not only will you have to get people to purchase the product or service you are representing, out of all those other affiliate pages, but you will have to do it ahead of the hundreds or thousands of other affiliates get to them. Make sure to choose a product or service that you totally understand: Don’t turn out to be an affiliate for a product you don’t perceive. As an affiliate you will have to supply site visitors with content and inspiration to pay out money. If you can’t make your site look like an expert on the product, you won’t get the sale. If you don’t identify with what it is that’s being sold, you wont have the ability to make your site look like an authority. Go for a affiliate program with a good pay structure: When setting up an affiliate marketing program, a business will figure out accurately what amount of their final sale they can give to a person promoting their product. This commission will be based on how big the profit percentage is and how many products they think they can actually sell through affiliate marketing efforts. As an affiliate, you want to make sure that the number they come up with will in fact make your endeavor profitable. Get hold of a affiliate program that gives you with all the suitable resources: A first-class affiliate marketing program will provide more than just an opportunity to make money. It will in addition make available an easy to access source of information on the product or service so as to make promoting it simpler. More than that, it will offer pictures and other media for your website as well. Look into how long they will track a cookie: This is essential. Some visitors will go through the affiliate link on your site, then review the product, but will not actually finalize a transaction for another few weeks. A viable affiliate program will track that visitor for enough time to be able to honor you with that transaction.
