I was surprised to learn my Twitter account profile ranks 12th most influential in the WeFollow Twitter directory for Adwords. WeFollow Adwords Particulary when their are many other Adwords labeled Twitter accounts who have significantly more followers than me. WeFollow’s Influence ranking must not be based on pure quantitty of followers because there are also several accounts with fewer followers than mine. I guess if I want to move up their list I had better Tweet more about Google Adwords.

Twitter is all the rage, but you don’t need me to tell you that. So, yes, this is another Twitter article. But hang in there, it’s a good one! Lately I’m hearing mixed reviews about the success companies are having with Twitter. After my own successes with Twitter, I was a little surprised, so I decided to dig a little deeper to try to find out why some are having success and others aren’t. Ready for what I found? I found that the people that are really participating are getting the benefit and those that aren’t don’t see much benefit! Wow! Imagine that. LOL OK, so there is no surprise there, but it’s still interesting. It tells me there are a lot of people out there that understand Twitter is important but they don’t know why. I suspect a lot of people think just being there is enough – just having a presence is all they need. I’m seeing great Twitter background pages and great bios and a handful of interesting tweets and then it stops there. Just being on Twitter isn’t enough. You have to participate. Join the conversation. Create conversation. It’s like getting all dressed up and heading to a party and then sitting in the corner by yourself not talking to anyone all night. While you may start the evening like that, just sitting back scoping things out – eventually, if you want to have a good time, you have to join the party. So c’mon in and join the Twitter party. J I know we are all busy, I know growing a business online has gotten harder. I often hear “you mean I have to do SEO, be on Facebook, write and syndicate articles, Blog regularly AND tweet???” My response is no you don’t have to. If you aren’t looking to aggressively grow your business and use all the tools available to you, then you can pick and choose what you want to do. Any of those strategies will work for you on their own, but the key is when combined they work so well together and you get a much bigger impact. It’s building on top of your efforts rather than a single pronged approach. I know it’s a lot of work. It’s also new. We’ve never marketed like this before. It’s confusing for beginners. So, here is a quick overview of some of the tips that my clients have found most helpful. Getting Started: Understand Your

It is an amazing discovery when you’ve been using a site for more than a year and then come across some new, unexpectedly genius way to take advantage of it. This happened with Twitter to me: I found a new awesome way to make the most of its feature called “Favorites” (do you use it?). It never occurred to me that knowing who favorites my Tweets and which of my Tweets get favorited, I get an opportunity to do the following: Find new partners and targeted contacts : if a person adds something to favorites, he is likely to be interested in the topic . If he added your Tweet to favorites, he is most likely to know you. Thus, all you need to do is (after some research) to contact him and discuss how you can partner to help each other. Analyze your own Tweets : by seeing which of your Tweets get favorited, you can learn more about your followers’ interests and preferences. And this means more post ideas , more targeted Tweets, etc. Note: of course, there are more factors to come into play. For example, a Tweet on Tuesday morning is more likely to get noticed and hence added to favorites than a Tweet posted on Sunday when most of your contacts are offline. Therefore, you should also do some research before arriving at any conclusions: track some trends, learn more about your contacts, etc. There are two awesome tools that allow you to see which of your Tweets are added to favorites by your followers ( you didn’t expect me to share the tip without giving some more actionable advice, did you? ). 1. The order of battle for Google this week seems to be on URL shorteners. This has been quite a trend on Twitter and Facebook with various third-party URL shortener sites offering this kind of service. But while others offer it as a stand-alone service, Google is taking the URL shortening thingie on a different approach – via Feedburner and Google Toolbar . As mentioned by the a post from the Official Google Blog , Google’s URL Shortener is offering a service based on the following: Stability: Google’s scalable, multi-datacenter infrastructure provides great uptime and a reliable service to our users. Security: As we do with web search, shortened URLs are automatically checked to detect sites that may be malicious and warn users when the short URL resolves to such sites. Speed: At Google we like fast products and we’ve worked hard to ensure this service is quick. We’ll continue to iterate and improve the speed of Google Url Shortener. To use Google’s URL Shortener, you need to have either Google Toolbar. When you share a website or blog via the Toolbar and you selected Twitter, the link will automatically be shortened when posted as a tweet. It works similar to other URL shortener that you have already used in Twitter before. The shortened URL always begin with “http://goo.gl/” For Feedburner, the URL shortener feature offers something else aside from letting you share links. You can try this out by going to Feedburner Publicize Tab’s Socialize service. Then add the Twitter account to which you would like to post items from your Feed. After doing this, you can either start sharing all your feeds to Twitter or customize which feeds you want to share to Twitter and how exactly you want them to look like when you send them as a tweet. Google said that URL shortener is currently being tested yet. Hence it was rolled out as a feature of Google Toolbar and Feedburner. But they are planning to make it available as a stand-alone product once they’ve proven it to be useful. I’m pretty sure it will soon be available on a wider audience pretty soon. To get a quick overview of what type of Twitter user you or your friends are check out Tweeps.Info. Entering a Twitter account name into Tweeps.Info produces the following answers: What do they tweet about? How much do they tweet? How social are they? Do they use hashtags? Do they share URLs? Tweeps.Info I was surprised to learn my Twitter account registered under any of their metrics. I was even more surprised Tweeps.Info had data about each keyword’s usage: google google is a keyword used regularly by 2.67% of tweeters in our tweeterbase.

Yahoo is officially joining Google and Bing in the race to provide the most relevant real-time search results a.k.a. Twitter-integrated search results. This was earlier hinted at when Yahoo started integrating relevant tweets to Yahoo News Shortcut . This time around relevant tweets will be integrated to search results using Yahoo’s algorithms for determining which tweets are relevant to the query. While this may seem similar to what Google and Bing may be currently doing, the difference is Yahoo’s integration is done using Twitter APIs. Yahoo’s algorithm monitors spikes in search queries and selects relevant tweets as so as the search query spikes become significant. So, tweets may not really be fresh and those included in the search results may be tweets posted for as early as minutes old or as old as few hours. Since Yahoo’s has no way of making its Twitter integration as fresh as possible by displaying the latest, by-the-minute tweets, it is focusing on the relevance of tweets to search query instead. And that perhaps could work to Yahoo’s advantage. Still maintaing search results’ integrity and relevancy instead of just giving the latest tweets with lesser relevancy to search query.
