Facebook Top Search Term 2009, Google Top Visited Site

Experian Hitwis e has just released two significant data of 2009 – top-search term and top-visited site with Facebook and Google earning the top spot respectively. Facebook beats dislodged last years top-searched term – MySpace. While Google obviously retained its last year’s position. Moving from last year’s 10th spot, Facebook accounted for 2.48% of the top 300 searches in 2009.  Including other variations of searches related to Facebok such as facebook.com, facebook login and others will amount to 1.09% of the top 300 searches. Following Facebook are MySpace with 1.02% of the searches, Yahoo with 0.95%, Google with 0.63% and Craiglist with 0.62% of the top 300 searches. In the Top-Visited Site category Google is again on the top spot for the second straight year. Google accounts for 6.70% of all U.S. visits from January to November 2009. Following Google is Yahoo mail with 4.44% of visits, Facebook with 4.26%, Yahoo (the main portal) with 3.36% and MySpace with 3% of the U.S. visits for 2009. Interestingly, Yahoo Mail remains to be one of Yahoo’s stronghold, which remained as the no. 2 most visited site since 2008. This only goes to show that its mail service is still the most used product on Yahoo, even beating Gmail, and Windows Live Mail. Check out the SEO Tools guide at Search Engine Journal . Google Chrome for Mac, Linux Available Now

As an early Christmas gift to us Mac users who have been waiting for so long, Google has finally outed Chrome for Mac (beta).  As a bonus, Google has also released Chrome for Linux and activated Chrome Extensions for Chrome users in Windows platform. If you’re a Mac user and you haven’t downloaded Chrome Beta for Mac, you should – right now. Google Chrome for Mac (Beta) brings the clean and simple design and of  course the lightning speed of Google Chrome that Windows users have been enjoying for the past couple of months now.  Like what the Google Blog said, Chrome for Mac loads fast, as in really fast.  In terms and look and feel, Chrome for Mac (Beta) is different of course from Chrome on Windows. It’s more  like having a toned-down version of Safari. Some of the basic features of Chrome for Windows are already in Chrome for Mac, although advanced features such as bookmark sync, extensions, bookmark manager are yet to be incorporated. Browser skins are already available. Overall, Chrome for Mac looks pretty good. It’s still in beta so expect some glitches along the way, although so far I haven’t encountered any. Hopefully  more advanced features would come along the way. You may download Google Chrome for Mac (Beta) from here . Aside from releasing Google Chrome for Mac (Beta), Google also made Chrome for Linux (Beta) available for Download with support for the 300 cool Chrome extensions which are also available for use on Google Chrome for Windows installation. Check out the SEO Tools guide at Search Engine Journal . Google Chrome for Mac, Linux Available

Google vs. Apple : Epic Battle of Droids, Tunes & Systems

For several years now, Google and Apple have been complimentary partners. Google was expertly integrated with the Apple iPhone, and the company’s engineers work tirelessly to bring many of their services to the Apple platform in addition to the PC and Linux platforms. They’ve been pals for much of the search engine’s lifespan. Google’s chief financial officer, Eric Schmidt, was even a member of Apple’s board of directors since August 2006. And immediately after Schmidt left Apple’s boardroom this year, Google has made much more of a push into areas that have thus far been dominated by Apple and Microsoft: browsers, operating systems, music services, and now, even Google-powered phones and Google netbooks . Schmidt’s resignation from the Apple board in 2009 was a signal to many that Google would be frequently stepping on Apple’s toes and looking to them as more of a competitor than partner. With that in mind, many can’t help but wonder which company will fare better and come out on top. Apple has been around since 1976. Google was established in 1998. In terms of length of time in business, Apple has got Google beat by more than two decades. In terms of brand awareness, however, Google trumps Apple, coming in at No. 7 on Interbrand’s Best Global Brands List for 2009 . Apple comes in at a respectable No. 20. Google is no stranger to going up against more established competitors and coming out on top. Case in point – Microsoft. In terms of search, they’ve been battling it out, and while Microsoft’s latest incarnation of search – Bing – is doing extremely well ( when it’s working ), Google still has more searches, and by quite a lot. While Microsoft has an advantage in the operating system and browser markets, with the majority of computers coming pre-installed with Windows and Internet Explorer, Google’s raising some eyebrows with their Android OS and Chrome browser.
